Downloading the Recorder

The Panopto Library must be enabled within a course/site before the recorder can be downloaded. Please submit the Panopto Access Form in order to enable the Panopto Library and request training.

The recorder has already been installed on the computers within the HSC classrooms. Therefore, if you are recording in a classroom, you do not need to download. However, once the Panopto Library has been enabled within your SOLE course, you must access the library within SOLE at least once before attempting to create a recording using the recorder. So, if you have not yet done so, enter the course in SOLE first before opening the recorder.

If you would like to download the recorder to your office or home computer, then you can begin by opening the Panopto Library within SOLE. It is located within Resources, near the bottom of the left navigation within your course.

To download the recorder:

  1. Click the Create button and select Record a new session.
  2. Click the Download Panopto button.
  3. The panoptorecorder.exe file will be downloaded to your computer.
  4. Open this file and click to Run the file.
  5. Follow the prompts to complete the installation of the recorder.
  6. Once the installation is complete, the recorder will open and prompt you to log into SOLE. There is three login options:
    • WVU Login – login to a SOLE account using a WVU Login username and password.
    • Don’t have a WVU Account? Log in here – login to a SOLE account with an existing external email address and password.
    • Sign in as a Guest – log in with Guest access if you do not have an existing SOLE account. A SOLE course administrator should submit the Panopto Support Request form afterward in order to route the recording to the appropriate course within SOLE.

The recorder can also be downloaded for PC or Mac directly from the HSC ITS website
