Not all SOLE installations will include Turnitin.

Turnitin is an Internet-based plagiarism-detection service created by iParadigms, LLC.

In order to utilize Turnitin the tool must have been activated by your instructor.

  1. Access the Turnitin tool located under Assessment on the left navigation.
  2. Click on the Turnitin assignment you wish to submit.
  3. Any directions for the assignment defined by your instructor will be located at the top of the page.
  4. You will automatically be taken to the “Assignment Dashboard” tab.
  5. Below the tab you will see the course title listed with the assignment title. Clicking on this will open more details about the assignment such as Instructions, Start Date, Due Date, Feedback Release Date, and the Max Points available for the assignment. Click the title again to close these details.
  6. The “Summary” tab displays the assignment’s title, grade, instruction, and date settings as well as additional settings regarding submissions and Originality Report access. You may also view and GradeMark rubric if one is being used.
  7. If you have not yet uploaded anything for the assignment you will see text that reads “You have no active papers in this assignment.”
  8. To upload your paper click the gray upload icon on the right side of the screen. A pop up window will open giving you three options:
    • Upload a file – Give your submission a title and click the “Select a file to upload” button to locate your file on your computer or jump drive. It will give you the option to preview the file before clicking either the “Cancel submission” or “Accept submission – save” buttons.
    • Copy & Paste – Give your submission a title and then type or paste the text for your submission into the submission text box. It will give you the option to preview the file before clicking either the “Cancel submission” or “Accept submission – save” buttons.
    • Additional Options – Allows you to log into your Google Drive or Dropbox account to select a file from there to upload as your submission. It will give you the option to preview the file before clicking either the “Cancel submission” or “Accept submission – save” buttons.
  9. Once you have made your submission you can view it by clicking the link below “Paper title” or by downloading it using the gray download button on the right side of the screen.
  10. You can also download a receipt of your submission using the gray paper icon on the right side of the screen. This receipt acknowledges that Turnitin received your paper and contains information regarding your submission which can be saved for your records.
  11. You can view your grades in two different places:
    • SOLE Gradebook – If you instructor has entered grades into the SOLE Gradebook AND the grades have been released, then you will be able to view your grade from within the Gradebook.
    • The Turnitin tool– Your instructor may also choose to use Turnitin's GradeMark tool to grade and make notes and comments about your submission. If this is the case, then you can view the grade and comments by viewing your submission from with the Turnitin tool. However, this information will only be available to you once the Feedback Release Date has passed. To view this date click on the Summary tab of the assignment.

If you cannot view your grades and believe you should be able to please contact your instructor. SOLE Support cannot supply grade information.
