Syllabus is a place for the Course Administrator to post a course outline, a summary of topics and other resources.

To access the Syllabus begin by clicking Information from the Left Navigation then clicking Syllabus.

Editing the Syllabus

  1. Within Information click Syllabus from the Left Navigation or the Main Content Area.
  2. Click the Edit icon on the top right of the Main Content Area.
  3. Use the Page Contents text area to enter your Syllabus information.
  4. There is also an option to Show in Course/Site Content.  This option is checked by default, but can be unchecked to hide the Syllabus page from Content.
  5. Click Update Syllabus.

Syllabus Builder (beta)

The new Syllabus Builder takes the standard syllabus format and allows the instructor to complete a form to deliver a fully accessible, html and printable version of the syllabus. Schools or degree programs can request a template to be utilized across their curriculum.

  1. Within Information click Syllabus from the Left Navigation or the Main Content Area.
  2. Click the Edit icon on the top right of the Main Content Area.
  3. Click the Syllabus Builder (beta) button at the top of the page.
  4. Select a Template type from the drop down menu.

Note: Program or School specific templates can be created by contacting SOLE Support.

  1. Complete the Syllabus Template by filling in the form fields.
  2. Depending on the syllabus Template selected, some standard policies will be added.
  3. When you have entered information into all desired fields, click Build Syllabus.
  4. You cannot save your place in the form and come back to it at a later time or revert back to the Syllabus Builder form once you have built the syllabus. Once you click Build Syllabus you can edit the entire document using the HTML editor.
  5. Once you have built the syllabus you can select Edit Page in the orange box at the top of the page to make modifications using the HTML editor. You can remove any syllabus template headings or edit content. When you are finished updating the syllabus from the HTML editor, click Save.
  6. You may download your syllabus by selecting Download in green at the top of the Syllabus page.
  7. You may repeat this process and rebuild a Syllabus at any time. Each time you replace a Syllabus by utilizing the Syllabus Builder your previous version is saved in the file manager.

Uploading a Custom Syllabus Page

You can also upload your Syllabus using a Word Document or PDF. Once you have completed your Syllabus document, upload the file to your File Manager of the course.

  1. Create your custom file (Word Doc or PDF) and upload the file to the File Manager.
  2. Within Information click Syllabus from the Left Navigation or the Main Content Area.
  3. Click the Edit icon on the top right of the Main Content Area.
  4. Click the Browse button and select your file from within the File Manager.
  5. There is an option to Allow students to download this file.  This option is checked by default, but can be unchecked to hide the Download button from student view.
  6. Click Update Syllabus. SOLE will automatically pull and display your custom uploaded file on the Syllabus page.  
  7. Any text entered into the Page Contents text area while editing will be displayed above the file as well.
  8. If the Show in Course/Site Content option is checked, the Syllabus page will also display in Content.

If you need to edit the syllabus once you have already uploaded and linked your file, then you will need to edit the file itself and upload and link the newer version.
