Managing Users

The Individual tab is also used to view and manage users within a course. Users are listed by Role and clicking the Role title will display the Role Permissions for that role.

There are four default roles in all SOLE courses:

  1. Administrators - Have full access to entire course
  2. Users (Students) - View access with participation in course assessments and activities
  3. Additional Users - View access with limited participation
  4. Guests - View only access

User name, unit/program, year (graduation), campus, account (active or inactive), and status (granted or blocked) information is listed for each user within their Roles. Click these headings to sort users based on that information.

The check boxes next to the users' names can be used to select users. Once selected, use the “Remove” button at the bottom of the page to remove them from the course or the “Change role to” drop down to move users between roles. The "Download Student Email List" button can also be used to download the selected students' email addresses.

Student accounts that have not been accessed in more than 14 months will be listed as inactive under the Account heading. Students are responsible for contacting SOLE Support to reactivate their SOLE account.

Additionally, there are two icons on the left of each user:

  1. The Envelope Icon can be used to email the user from a chosen email application. This does not send an email using SOLE's Mailing List Tool.
  2. The Comment Icon provides a confidential place for instructors to add comments concerning an individual student. Students do not see these notes.

Blocking Users

Users who are blocked from a course will still remain on the list of individuals who are in the course but will be labeled as such under Status.

A blocked course will still be visible on the user's Courses & Sites panel but they will not be able to access the course.  If a user clicks to access a blocked course, a default message will be displayed: "Your access to this site has been blocked!"

Administrators have the control to block and unblock users as needed within courses. However, please note that this feature may or may not be congruent with individual departmental policies, so it may be best to review departmental policies before using this feature.
