Taking an Exam

If your professor requires the SOLE LockDown Browser for the exam, you must download it prior to starting. Click here to learn more about the SOLE LockDown Browser.

  1. Accessing Your Exam:

    • Go to your course, select Assessment, and then Exams from the left navigation. Exams may also be posted within Course Content.
    • Select the exam you wish to take from the list of available exams.
  2. Reviewing Exam Details:
    If there is a Time Limit, Due Date, Expiration Date, or a Required Password for the exam, these details will display in red at the top of the page.

  3. Launching the Exam:

    • Click the Launch button to start. A screen with two options will appear: Watch a Tutorial or Launch Your Exam.
    • Watching the tutorial is optional but recommended for first-time users. After viewing, click Launch Exam to begin.

Answering Questions

Once launched, you can begin answering the questions. Different question types include:

  • Multiple Choice and True/False: Click the radial button next to the correct answer.
  • Matching: Use drop-down menus to match correct answers.
  • Essay and Fill in the Blank: Enter text directly.
  • Multiple Select: Choose one or more correct answers by selecting checkboxes next to options.
  • Ordering: Drag and drop answers into the correct order.
  • Hotspot: Click on a specified area within an image to answer.

Using Exam Tools

  1. Notes and Flags:

    • Use the flag icon to mark questions for review.
    • Click the pencil icon to leave a note for yourself or, if enabled, share notes with the instructor.
  2. Saving Answers:

    • Click the green Save button after answering each question. The button will turn gray once saved, and the legend icon for that question will turn green.
    • For exams displaying questions one at a time, click the green arrow icon to advance to the next question.
  3. Reviewing the Legend:
    Once all questions are complete, use the legend on the right to verify all questions are saved (green) and review flagged questions (red).

Submitting Your Exam

  1. Finish and Review:
    After completing all questions, click the green Finish button at the bottom right. A summary screen will appear showing:

    • Total questions answered

    • Number of flagged questions, unanswered questions, and unsaved questions

    • If needed, click Go Back to review flagged or unanswered questions.

  2. Final Submission:
    When ready, click the green Submit Exam button to complete the exam. Based on availability, post-exam reporting data may display, including your score, question details, answers, point values, and feedback.

Important Notes

  • Resuming Exams: If you close an exam without submitting, return to it via the Exams tool to complete submission. For timed exams, the timer does not pause; it continues from the initial start time.
  • Availability Period: If the exam closes before you log in and submit, contact your course administrator.
