Managing an Exam
The buttons available for managing an exam vary by its publish status (Draft, Released, or Closed):
Exams in Draft Mode
- Add Questions/Manage Questions – Edit exam sections and questions, including which questions are on the exam and their content.
- Release This Exam – Appears after questions have been added and releases the exam for students.
- Preview Exam – Allows you to review the exam by taking it before releasing it to students.
- Printable - Provides a printable copy of the exam, with or without the answer key, for offline review.
- Copy Exam – Creates an exact copy of the exam, useful for making edits without affecting current submissions.
Released Exams
- Exam Submissions: Displays information about student submissions, including:
- Completed exams
- Exams not yet started
- Exams in progress
- Completion percentage
- Send a Reminder: Emails students who haven't started the exam with an editable reminder message. This option is unavailable once the exam is clos
- Exam Details:
- Close Exam – Closes the exam, preventing students from taking it while allowing scoring adjustments and Quick Grade within the Gradebook. Closed exams allow students to see scores but no longer participate.
- View Questions – Lists attached questions and total points. Manage Questions is unavailable after release.
- Exam Reports – Shows statistical data, scoring, and question stats for submissions. A quick view of settings is also available without editing the exam.
Closed Exams
- Adjust Question Scoring – displays the exam questions, possible answers, and the number of students that chose each answer. You also have the option of marking the question as ignored for all exam takers or as correct for all exam takers and can award or subtract points for particular answer options within a single question.
- Reopen Exam – Reopens a closed exam, allowing students to retake or review their submissions. If the exam is timed, reopening restarts the timer. Override Settings can adjust timing for individual students in a reopened exam.
Note: Switching an exam back to draft mode after it has been released or closed will delete all student submissions and exam attempts. You’ll receive a reminder when making this change.
