Installing the LockDown Browser
To take a LockDown exam, you must first install the SOLE LockDown Browser. Follow these steps:
Installing the SOLE LockDown Browser
- Select the correct platform for your device and click the download link:
- Open the downloaded file:
- A “User Account Control” prompt will ask if you’d like to allow the program to make changes. Select Yes.
- Click Next, then Install. Once installation is complete, click Finish.
- You can now select an exam and click the green Launch Exam button to start a secure exam in the SOLE LockDown Browser.
Minimum System Requirement
- Desktop or Laptop Only: The LockDown Browser is not compatible with tablets or Chromebooks.
- Windows: Windows 8 and Windows 10 (Windows 10S is not supported)
- Mac: macOS 10.12 to 11.1+
Installing the SOLE LockDown Browser from a Course
To install the browser directly from a course:

Access your course:
- Go to the correct course from the SOLE homepage and enter Exams under Assessment.

If an exam requires the LockDown Browser, a link to install it will appear at the top:
- “Click here to download and install SOLE Lockdown Browser (Windows or Mac).”

Begin the download and installation:
- Open the downloaded file. In the “User Account Control” window, click Yes to allow changes.
- Select Next, then Install. After installation, click Finish.

You can now choose an exam and click the green Launch Exam button to start it in the SOLE LockDown Browser.
