General

The General Tab will open automatically after you’ve clicked to add an exam. This is where you will define the basic exam settings, including the Exam Title and Exam Type which are mandatory fields.

The exam type is set to Standard exam by default which means that the exam can only be taken once. Choosing Self-Study means that the exam may be taken multiple times.

If you choose self-study you can use the drop down menu to decide how to grade the exam. There are three options for Scoring: High Score, Last Score, or Average Score. You can also choose the Maximum number of attempts for a self-study exam. This will automatically be set to an unlimited number but you can use the drop down menu to choose between 1 and 10 attempts.

Additional settings, which are optional, are available within the General tab:

  1. Exam Details allows you to insert a description of the exam, name the Contributor (the administrator that is creating the content), and apply a Category.
  2. Exam Tags allows you to add tags to your content so that you may easily find content associated with a particular tag. Tags can also aid in your department's curriculum mapping.

Categories and Tags can be also used for searching and organizing questions in the question bank. For example, you could create a Category named “Chapter One” with the tags “heart” and “brain”. This would allow filtering on all questions from “Chapter One” or filtering on all questions across all chapters related to the “heart” or the “brain.”

  3. Location Information references where the exam may be taken.
  4. Calendar Settings allows you to publish the date/time that the exam will be displayed on the Content Calendar and the What’s New list. Duration sets how long the event lasts so that students know what time and how long the exam is scheduled to take.

This does not affect the actual availability of the exam. Availability settings must be set from the Availability tab.
