SOLE Update | May 8, 2018

Published Tuesday, April 10, 2018

SOLE will be unavailable due to a scheduled update from 7 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 8.

SOLE Annotator

On Tuesday May 8, SOLE will update its document viewer to our new beta annotation tool called SOLE Annotator. This tool will provide document previews (e.g., Word, Excel, PDF, and PPT) that can be annotated using built-in commenting, highlighting, and drawing tools. Students can take notes on documents posted within Course Content while Instructors can provide annotated feedback on assignments submitted in the Detailed Grader.

SOLE Annotator will allow the following functionality:
- Comment
- Pen
- Rectangle
- Highlight
- Text
- Strikeout

Previews of the new SOLE Annotator will be available soon.

SOLE Authentication

The update will also enable WVU’s Central Authentication System (CAS) for all future WVU SOLE logins. This will require that anyone with a WVU login (current faculty, staff, and some WVU Medicine users) to use DUO two-factor authentication if accessing SOLE from wireless or the classroom. Two-factor authentication has been in effect since January 2018 and will now include SOLE.

Students SHOULD NOT enroll in DUO until after the 2018 spring term. Many courses do not allow mobile devices in the room at exam time. Therefore, early enrollment may cause an issue in classrooms if using a mobile device as a second layer of authentication. Students will have until August 31, 2018 to enroll in DUO two-factor authentication.

*Please note that this does not affect external, non-WVU accounts.
