Embedding YouTube

YouTube videos can be embedded into some tools within SOLE. Instructors can embed videos into a SOLE Content Page or into the details and/or directions settings of a Content Object or specific Assignments, Exams, Surveys, Chats, Discussions, and Journals.

Additionally, students can embed YouTube videos as part of a Discussion post or reply, Journal Entry, or Assignment submission.

To embed a YouTube video in SOLE, begin by locating and copying the video’s embed code:

  1. Click the Share link under the video.
  2. Click the Embed link.
  3. Copy the code provided in the expanded box.
  4. Next, within SOLE, click the YouTube icon located on the text toolbar: YouTube Icon
  5. Paste the embed code from YouTube into the text box. You may also choose to paste the video URL here instead.
  6. Enter a “Start at” time if you wish to start the video later than the beginning time.
  7. Click the green Submit button once you have finished embedding the video.

Panopto videos available within a course or site may also be embedded in the same manner using the Embed Panopto Video button Panopto embed icon for recorded videos.. Use the drop down to select a video to embed into the page or Content description.

Posting to Your YouTube Account

To get started uploading videos on YouTube, follow the steps below:

  1. Sign into YouTube.
  2. Click the Upload button at the top of the page.
  3. Select the video you'd like to upload from your computer. You can also record a video from your webcam, or create a video slideshow. Before you start uploading the video you can chose the video privacy settings. As the video is uploading, you can add information (e.g. title, description, tags), change your privacy settings, add the video on a playlist, choose a custom thumbnail or decide if you’d like to post it to Google+ or Twitter.
  4. Make any changes you want to the video settings and information, then click Publish to finish uploading it on YouTube. You can always publish your video at a later time in your Video Manager. If you set the video privacy setting to Private or Unlisted, just click Done to finish the upload or click Share to privately share your video. If you haven’t clicked Publish, your video won’t be view able by other people.

When you upload a video, by default it’s set as a “Public” video, which means that anybody can view it. You can easily change the privacy settings of your videos. Choose it while you’re uploading the video in the “Privacy Settings” section or, if you’ve already uploaded the video, change the privacy settings by following the steps below.

Change the privacy setting on iOS through the YouTube App:

  1. Sign in to YouTube.
  2. Open the Guide and navigate to My Channel.
  3. Touch the Videos tab.
  4. Find the video you want to change and touch the  menu icon.
  5. Select Edit upload.
  6. In the “Privacy Settings” menu, select PublicUnlisted, or, Private.
  7. Touch Done to save changes.

Here’s how to embed a video from YouTube:

  1. Click the Share link under the video.
  2. Click the Embed link.
  3. Copy the code provided in the expanded box.
  4. Paste the code into your blog or website.
