Gradebook

There are two ways to link an exam to the Gradebook:

  1. When you click the tab you are first given the option of creating a new Gradebook assignment. To create a new Gradebook assignment you will need to click the checkbox then define the following:
    • Gradebook Group – If the Gradebook is Grouped than you must use the drop down menu to choose in which group the exam will appear within the Gradebook. If the Gradebook is not grouped then this will not be an option.
    • Scale - If the Gradebook is set up with Additional Grading Scales than you must use the drop down menu to choose which grading scale will be used to grade the exam. Additional Grading Scales must be defined through Gradebook settings.
    • Is Used in Calculations – Uncheck this box to exclude the exam grade from the final grade calculations.
    • Is Extra Credit – Exam grades can be added to the Gradebook as Extra Credit instead of a regular graded assignment by clicking this checkbox. The Is Used in Calculations box must be checked in order to include the exam as extra credit.
  2. You may also use the drop down to attached the exam to an existing Gradebook assignment. The assignment must have been created from within the Gradebook beforehand. To do this, select Attach to existing gradebook assignment and use the drop down menu to select the assignment you wish to attach the exam to.

You can also detach an exam from the Gradebook on the Gradebook tab by placing a check next to the Detach from Gradebook option. This option is only available for exams linked to the Gradebook. If you detach an exam from the Gradebook the assignment and grades will still remain in the Gradebook but will not be linked. You will need to delete the assignment from the Gradebook itself to fully remove it. See the Gradebook Help pages to learn more about this.

Exams attached to the Gradebook that contain essay questions require manual grading before their grades will populate in the Gradebook.

You will also have the option to modify the grade if necessary, however the exam must be closed to do so. Please note that any subsequent changes to the exam that affect student scores will overwrite the manual changes.
